The LHA was originally conceived by a group of like minded individuals back in 1978 and on the 2nd of July that year, the World War 2 Battle Re-enactment Association burst into the hobby with an event at Molash, near Canterbury. The standards then were substantially different to today and issues such as weapons resulted in the use of .22 starting pistols and single shot 'rifles'.
In the late 80s the living history element of the hobby began to manifest itself more and more, and through innovative organisers such as the Special Events Unit at English Heritage, living history was starting to become the norm rather than the exception at public events. A decision was then taken to formally change the name from 'Battle Re-enactment' to 'Living History' to emphasise the direction the Association was now taking.
Since those early days, the LHA has grown and gone from strength to strength being involved in some of the biggest WW2 and multi-period living history events in Europe, as well as countless TV productions and filmwork.
